One of the truly great folk potters, Melvin Owens has worked all of his life in pottery. He is the son of James H. Owens, and brother of Walter N., Jonah, and Elvin Owens. When he first started, he built kilns for potters, including the kilns at Jugtown. In 1975, Melvin sold his pottery business to Boyd Owens.
