The new kiln will be a 34 cubic ft. catenary arch cross draft with an internal firebox. During the workshop we will cover all aspects of wood kiln building including design considerations, arch form construction, refractory materials and suppliers. Discussions will include loading and firing theories, clays, glazes, slips, woods, and even what makes a good wood fired pot. Participants can expect to come away with a good understanding of the basics of wood kiln design, construction and firing. Everyone should also bring 10–15 pots, or approximately what would fit on a 9” high by 24” square shelf. We will glaze our pots here, then load the kiln for it's maiden firing. Shifts of 3 or 4 people will take turns stoking for 24 hours until we reach cone 11. A slide show will also be included. Registration fee is $400. Enrollment is limited so please sign up early. You can register by mail, by phone or in person. Please e-mail
