It’s All in the Details:
Handbags, Scarves and Jewelry
August 10 – September 8, 2013
In conjunction with It's All in the Details, Cedar Creek Gallery is hosting a fundraiser for Dress for Success Triangle. Bring to the gallery your donations of clean business clothing, scarves, handbags and jewelry, and receive a Cedar Creek Gallery 20% OFF coupon for one wearable item (a handbag, a scarf or a piece of jewelry) You can drop off your donations starting now, whenever the gallery is open, and the coupon will be good anytime between August 10 and September 8.
The Specifics: Dress for Success Triangle is looking for items that are clean and in good condition, on hangers where applicable and in current style and all-season weight materials. Please keep in mind that the clothing they provide to women is primarily for job interviews.
The donation wish list includes:
- Nearly new blouses and shells
- Conservative all-season suiting
- New or lightly worn pumps (particularly size 8 and larger and wide widths)
- Belts, scarves and costume jewelry and career handbags
- Scrubs in sizes 1x-5x
Excess items will be donated to other nonprofit organizations or may be sold to raise funds for others clothing items that they need.
Dress for Success Triangle NC, founded April 2008, promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women succeed in work and in life.
Dress for Success serves clients by referral from a continually expanding and diverse group of partner organizations including job training programs, educational institutions, homeless shelters and domestic violence shelters, among many other organizations.
In addition to their suiting program, they provide ongoing support through a career coach, as well as their Professional Women's Group where members meet monthly for a networking and education program.
Donations will be accepted now until September 8, 2013, , with a limit of two 20% off coupons per person.
I have to be honest; my office is usually a mess. Most often it's because I have a thousand things going on at once and cleaning isn't at the top of my list. Today however, it's because of the generosity of the wonderful people who come to Cedar Creek. In conjunction with It's All in the Details: Handbags, Scarves and Jewelry we asked you to look in your closets for the business clothes you no longer wear, and bring them to us to share with Dress for Success Triangle. It is inspiring to me to see the donations accumulate in my office.
Dress for Success Triangle solves the catch-22 that confronts disadvantaged women trying to enter the workforce: without a job, how can you afford a suit? But without a suit, how can you get a job? After a client finds work, she can return to Dress for Success for enough additional apparel to mix and match for up to a week's worth of outfits.
If you have wonderful business things in your closet you no longer wear, please give them a second life. To encourage you to make the effort, we will give you a coupon for 20% off any one apparel item in the gallery (including jewelry, handbags, scarves, anything to wear) - up to two coupons per person. There's still time - we will continue to collect items until September 8th. And thank you!
