My first contact with Cedar Creek Gallery was in the late 70’s. I was living and making pots in Penland, NC. On a trip to visit nearby relatives I brought a few pots by the gallery to show Sid and Pat Oakley, potters themselves and owners of Cedar Creek. That day opened the door to a great business relationship and more importantly some wonderful friendships that have spanned over thirty years.

In 1996, I took a break from clay to paint full time, which I did for eleven years. During that time I kept in touch with Sid, Pat and long time friend Brad Tucker, who has a clay studio adjacent to Cedar Creek. Sid and I occasionally would get together for a three or four day painting session. He was always generous with his time and knowledge.

On a trip in 2007, I was offered a studio space if by chance I ever wanted to revisit my clay urges. As it turned out I was looking for a little solace and they needed someone tall for light bulb instillation, perfect match. I excitedly committed to three months, which have, in the blink of an eye turned into years. It’s a beautiful spot to spend a moment.
